This page describes a few terms that you might come across while using Slide.

Term Definition
Backup Backup describes the process of performing an image-based copy of your data. We call a completed and successful backup a snapshot. A snapshot can be used to restore your data in case of data loss. Only successful backups result in a snapshot. Failed backups do not create snapshots. Learn more about the different types of backups
BIC BIC stands for Box in Cloud. BICs are the state of the art servers that store your customers backup data and are used to virtualize in the case of a disaster. They make up a core component of the Slide Cloud and are stored in a colocated datacenter.
Differential Compares the latest snapshot on the Slide Box with the data on the Slide Agent and then copies only data that has changed, since they are incremental in nature. This is usually faster than a full backup, because not all data has to be copied, but slower than an incremental backup. Learn more about the different types of backups
Protected System, Protected Machine The original machine that you are backing up. A protected system has a Slide Agent installed, which communicates with a Slide Box.
Slide Agent A lightweight software application that you install on your Windows computer to back up your data to a Slide Box. The Slide Agent communicates with the Slide Box and the Slide Cloud to manage your backups.
Slide Box A physical appliance that you can use to back up your Windows computer.
Slide Cloud Slide's proprietary cloud, managed and maintained by Slide. The Slide Cloud is a combination of components in our datacenters.
Slide Console A web-based interface that you can use to manage your Slide Boxes, and protected systems. It lets you configure backup schedules, cloud replication and manage restores. The Slide Console is the central hub for everything related to your Slide account. It is available at console.slide.tech.
Snapshot A snapshot is an image copy of the protected system that can be used to restore your system. Snapshots are created when a backup succeeds. Only successful backups result in a snapshot. Failed backups do not create snapshots.
